I changed my mind on what i want to do my research project on. I changed my mind because in class the other day, our professor said that if we do not care about what we are writing about, then neither will our audience. It really dawned on me in this moment, that i really did not care about my previous subject. It was just something i chose because i thought i could write 13 pages on it. However, i thought through it again, and chose a book that i actually love and a subject that matters to me. I am now going to do my research topic on “Their Eyes were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston. This is a novel that was written during the Harlem Renaissance. I want to do a study on how the Harlem Renaissance changed African American literature in america. This is a good novel to incorporate because it has heavy black vernacular usage and this was an important detail in this literature time period. It also is about a young black woman’s struggle through finding a voice for herself post slavery.
